PCAN-GPS FD : A GPS Sensor Module with CAN FD
connection

PEAK-System has released the PCAN-GPS FD, a modern sensor module with CAN FD connection. The
sensor technology of the new module is designed for the detection of position, orientation,
and acceleration.
The PCAN-GPS FD is a programmable sensor module for position and orientation determination
with CAN FD connection. It has a satellite receiver, a magnetic field sensor, an
accelerometer, and a gyroscope. Incoming sensor data is processed by the NXP microcontroller
LPC54618 and then transmitted via CAN or CAN FD.
The behavior of the PCAN-GPS FD can be programmed freely for specific applications. The
firmware is created using the included development package with GNU compiler for C and C++
and is then transferred to the module via CAN. Various programming examples facilitate the
implementation of own solutions.
On delivery, the PCAN-GPS FD is provided with a standard firmware that transmits the raw
data of the sensors periodically on the CAN bus.

Development of Custom Firmware

The processing and transmission of sensor data by the integrated Arm Cortex M4
microcontroller can be programmed as desired. For this, we provide a user-friendly
development package for C and C++ with various programming examples. The resulting firmware
can be transferred directly to the module via the CAN bus using any PEAK CAN interface and
the included Windows software PEAK-Flash.

The development package, called PEAK-DevPack, is available as a free download from our
website and is designed to be used with Microsoft Visual Studio Code. It contains examples
for all programmable hardware products by PEAK-System.
In addition, the PCAN-GPS FD supports debugging based on the integrated OpenOCD debug
toolchain. The PEAK-DevPack Debug Adapter simplifies the connection of a hardware debugger
to the JTAG connector of the PCAN-GPS FD.
