FT12 Series ICs – Full Speed USB Peripheral Controller
|
|
|
Key Hardware Features
|
|
|
|
|
|
The FT12 series consists of 3 full-speed USB peripheral
controller ICs.
The FT120 is the basic device designed as a drop-in
alternative for PDIUSBD12 designs. The FT122 extends the
FT120 design by adding battery charger detection and
internal clocking, while the FT121 replaces the parallel
interface with an SPI interface allowing for less pin count
required from the external processor. All three devices are
fully customisable for different USB classes and
applications.

|
Vinculum (VNC1L) - Embedded USB Host Controller
Vinculum-II (VNC2) - Programmable USB 2.0 Host
|
|
|
|
|
|
The Vinculum family of devices allow the implementation
of USB host controller functionality within products, thus
saving development time and costs by using FTDI's tried and
tested firmware programmed into internal, easily
upgradeable Flash memory.
The Vinculum family of USB Host Controller ICs not only
handle the USB Host Interface, and data transfer functions
but owing to the inbuilt 8/32-bit MCU and embedded Flash
memory, vinculum encapsulates the USB device classes as
well. When interfacing to mass storage devices such as USB
Flash drives, vinculum also transparently handles the FAT
file structure communicating via UART, SPI or parallel FIFO
interfaces via a simple to implement command set. The
vinculum device features two USB Ports which can be
individually configured by firmware as Host or Slave ports.
vinvulum brings cost effective USB Host capability to
products that previously did not have the hardware
resources available. Viniculum devices will be especially
popular for adding USB Flash drive connectivity to a wide
range of consumer and industrial products. Viniculum family
comes complete with FTDI's in-house developed firmware,
there are no USB software stacks to license, indeed, no
knowledge of USB is required to use these devices.
The initial product member of the family is the VNC1L
device which features two USB Ports which can be
individually configured by firmware as Host or Slave ports.

FT300 Series ICs
– USB Host Solutions
|
|
|
Key Hardware Features
|
|
|
|
|
|
The FT311D and FT312D provide a bridge between
peripheral hardware and an Android platform with a USB
device port. The FT311D will enumerate the Android platform
and provide an interface to either, GPIO, UART, PWM, I2C
Master, SPI Slave or SPI Master, while the FT312D has
optimised buffering for fast UART transfer. Note, proper
compatibility requires Android Open Accessory Mode,
available in Android platforms 3.1 onwards.
The FT313H is a general purpose USB2.0 Hi-Speed, EHCI
Host controller designed for integration with
microcontrollers via numerous parallel bus options and
offering battery charger emulation on the downstream port
to enable optimized charging with higher currents.

FT800 EVE -
Embedded Video Engine, LCD Controller
|
|
|
Key Hardware Features
|
|
|
|
|
|
FTDI Chip is redefining the cost and quality paradigm
for graphic user interface (GUI) development with the
introduction of the FT800, Embedded Video Engine (EVE).
With 3 in 1 functionality including display, audio, and
touch operations, engineers now have an advanced solution
to easily create and output state-of-the-art interactive
display systems. Targeted at QVGA and WQVGA TFT display
panels, EVE’s object orientated approach eliminates the
traditional frame buffer memory as it renders an image, on
a line by line basis, to 1/16th pixel resolution. Simply,
initialize the object memory, then control the objects and
their attributes by creating and manipulating a small
display list buffer, which can be done even with a low-end
8-bit CPU. The embedded audio controller allows midi-like
sounds or PCM audio playback. Packaged in a space-saving
48LD QFN package, the FT800 comes preloaded with a useful
set of fonts and sounds in ROM, making it suitable for many
applications.
|
|
|
Targeted at QVGA and WQVGA resolution TFT displays with
parallel RGB interface
Dithering hardware provides 24-bit (true colour)
support on an 18-bit interface
256k internal object memory
Store up to 2000 objects in 8k byte display list
Inbuilt controller supports 4-wire resistive touch
panels
PWM output for programmable display brightness
Anti-aliasing support improves display perception
Low-power - 35mA typical in active mode down, and 25uA
in sleep mode
Widgets (innovation mechanisms) allow easy creation of
complex objects (e.g analog clocks)
Integrated audio output - play beeps, tones or recorded
audio
SPI or I2C interface to system microcontroller
Space saving 48LD QFN package

FT232R - USB
UART IC
|
|
|
|
|
|
FT232 chip can bridge the commonly used
industry-standard serial interfaces to USB with entire USB
protocol handled on the chip. The supported serial
protocols include RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 at up to 3
Mega baud data transfer rate.
The latest version is FT232R. It integrates EEPROM and
clock generator into the chip, and provides 5 extra
customer-configurable I/O pins, and offers FTDIChip-ID™
security protection features. It also supports wide logic

forming the basis of a security dongle which can be used to
protect customer application software from being copied.
The FT232R is available in Pb-free (RoHS compliant)
compact 28-Lead SSOP and QFN-32 packages.
